5,247 large trucks crashed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during 2009, according to the latest statistics released by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.  As a Pennsylvania truck accident attorney, I am happy to report that 5,247 is the lowest number of heavy truck accidents in the Commonwealth over the past five years.

However, I urge caution in reading too much into these numbers. It is important to remember that while the number of accidents has decreased, on average more than 14 large truck crashes occurred in Pennsylvania every day during 2009.   112 of those crashes were fatal.  Many more resulted in injuries.
