How Close Has Your Child Come to Being in a Serious Accident?
A new survey conducted by Liberty Mutual Insurance and Students Against Destructive Decisions indicated that 7 out of 10 – 70% – of teen drivers say that they have barely avoided being in a serious crash. More than one third of teen drivers admit to being in this situation more than once.
The survey included 2,294 teens from across the country. Many teens blamed other drivers and weather for their near miss accidents. Yet their own actions may also contribute to the dangerous situations. Specifically,
- 30% of teens admit to speeding.
- 21% admit to texting and driving.
- 20% admit to being distracted by talking to passengers.
- 17% say they were distracted while changing music.
Yet, only 9% contribute these factors to their near miss crashes.
You can help your teen prevent a near miss from becoming a tragic catastrophe by talking to your child about how speeding, texting, talking, changing music and other activities may be distracted while driving. As a PA auto accident lawyer, I encourage you not to wait. Have the conversation today and help your child stay safe on the road.
