How Safe is Your Child on the School Bus?
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, school bus safety is a top priority in the Commonwealth. From the first day of Kindergarten until graduation day, parents of Pennsylvania school children hope that that PennDOT is right and that their children remain safe.
Yesterday morning, more than 40 Philadelphia families got the dreaded phone call – the one that informed them that their children had been in school bus accident. 45 Pepper Middle School students were taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after one bus rear ended another bus on the 2700 block of Island Avenue in Southwest Philly shortly after 8 a.m. on June 8, 2010.
Two adults were also injured in the accident.
Thankfully, most of the injuries seem minor from this accident. However, it is an important opportunity to review bus safety with your own children and to remind them to always remain seated on a school bus even during this last days of the school year.
