Could Pennsylvania Roads be Designed to Decrease Pedestrian Fatalities?

A new report from Transportation for America found that 1,611 pedestrians were killed in Pennsylvania between 2000 – 2009.  Some of the reasons for these pedestrian deaths included defective road design and speeding.  Many of these preventable pedestrian deaths occurred because of a combination of defective road design and speeding.  Specifically, they occur on roadways where the speed limit is 40 mph or greater and the road is not designed to accommodate walkers, bikers, children and people in wheelchairs.

According to the report, Pennsylvania ranks in the bottom half of states when it comes to pedestrian safety.  I believe as an auto accident attorney, Pennsylvania can do better.  That we must do better and that we must consider pedestrian safety in the design of our state’s roadways.
