More PA Car Accidents and More Injuries This Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day Weekend 2012 is behind us. As we look forward to the summer, it is important to look back and analyze what happened on Pennsylvania roads over the long holiday weekend. It is important to remember the lives that were lost, to comfort the families in mourning and the injured victims in pain, and to try to reduce the number of serious crashes that occur during the rest of the summer season.
This year, the Pennsylvania State Police report:
• 817 accidents.
• 311 injuries.
• 13 deaths.
• 1,129 tickets being issued for failure to wear a seatbelt.
• 113 tickets being issued for failing to have a child in a car seat.
• 9,202 tickets being issued for speeding.
• 404 arrests for driving under the influence.
In 2011, there were also 13 fatal Pennsylvania Memorial Day crashes. However, there were slightly fewer accidents and injuries. Specifically, there were 808 crashes and 294 injuries reported.
The 2011 and 2012 statistics only reflect numbers reported by the PA state police and do not include any accidents reported to or tickets issued by local police.
