How Safe is Your Child?
A new study conducted by Safe Kids USA found that many children are still incorrectly secured in car seats. The study, which is believed to be among the largest of its kind, looked at 79,000 car seats over the course of a year and found that:
- Fewer than one third of forward facing car seats were secured with a tether.
- Of the car seats that did have the tether secured, 41 percent of the seats were incorrectly secured.
- Children between ages 1-2 were still being transitioned to forward-facing car seats before the recommended time.
As a Pennsylvania auto accident lawyer, I’ve seen the significant harm that can come from an improperly installed car seat. It could seriously hurt your child or cost our child his life.
I encourage you to take the time to make sure that your car seat is properly installed. If you have any questions about the installation of your car seat, please contact your local police department’s non-emergency number and ask if someone can check the installation of your car seats for you, or contact a baby store and ask if they have a qualified person available to do the check for you.
