How Does the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Helmet Law Measure Up?
The CDC recently compared the motorcycle helmet laws of each state to determine how well they worked. According to the CDC, the current the Pennsylvania motorcycle helmet law saved 14 lives and $28 million per 100,000 registered motorcycles in 2010. In comparison, New Jersey’s universal helmet law saved 11 lives and $22 million per 100,000 registered motorcycles and New York’s universal helmet law saved 29 lives and $58 million per 100,000 registered motorcycles.
Accordingly, the CDC is recommending that Pennsylvania enact a universal helmet law so that more lives can be saved and more money can be freed up for other reasons.
